Details
The amino acid Acetyl-L-Carnitine is naturally produced in the body. Acetyl-L-Carnitine, also know as ALC, helps the body produce energy. It has an acetyl group which plays a role in the production of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that is required for mental function. The production of acetylcholine decreases as people age. ALC is very important for heart and brain function, muscle movement and many other body processes. It’s excellent for clarity of thought & memory.
Everyone over the age of 40 should take ALC for optimal brain and nervous system function. It is used for numerous mental disorders including age-related memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, degenerative cerebellar atexia, thinking problems related to alcoholism & possibly late life depression. It’s been shown to improve memory in elderly people. It has been used to treat those with Alzheimer’s disease. It has been shown to slow the decline in younger patients with Alzheimer’s disease. It’s more likely to help those under the age of 66 with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease who have a faster progression rate of the disease and mental deterioration. Some clinical trials suggest that ALC may help those with degenerative cerebellar atexia, a condition where one loses muscular coordination. Cerebellar atexia is caused by a disease in the cerebellum, the part of brain that controls muscle tone and balance. Studies have shown that taking Acetyl-L-Carnitine can improve the memory in those between the ages of 30 and 60 years old whose use of alcohol has produced long term thinking problems. Some studies have even suggested that the elderly can take ALC to help improve their mood and lower their levels of depression.
